Who this is for
This service is for UK businesses that have hired, or are about to hire, people in the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Employing overseas can feel like a leap. The rules on contracts, notice, leave, pay and termination differ between countries, and a policy that works in the UK may not work elsewhere. You need someone who understands how international teams work in practice, and who knows when to bring in a local expert.
Common situations
- You are making your first hire in North America, Australia or New Zealand
- You have a UK handbook and want policies that work sensibly across several countries
- You are considering an employer of record rather than setting up a local entity
- A remote employee has moved abroad and you need to understand the implications
- Your overseas team members are managed by UK managers who are unsure how to adapt
- You need a consistent way to onboard and support people in different time zones
How Progressive HR helps
I have led HR for teams across the UK, USA, Canada and New Zealand, and I support teams in Australia. I focus on the people side of running an international team: clear processes, consistent expectations and well-prepared managers.
- Global policies that work across countries, with local variations flagged for specialist review
- Hiring and onboarding overseas employees
- Employer of record (EOR) guidance, including questions to ask providers
- Coordinating with local employment specialists, so you get the right advice in each country
- Day-to-day people issues, such as performance, absence and manager support, for international teams
I do not give legal advice on local law outside the UK. Where local employment law advice is needed, I work alongside trusted local specialists and make sure their advice is built into your people processes.
How it works
- Book a free 20-minute call and tell me where your people are based and what you need.
- I recommend an approach and confirm the cost in writing, including where local specialists are needed.
- I prepare the policies, onboarding processes and documents, and coordinate with local specialists on country-specific points.
- I support your managers day to day, and we review the setup as your international team grows.
Pricing
£85 an hour
Ad hoc advice, or £600 a day
International HR support is available on a pay as you go basis at £85 an hour, or £600 a day for hands-on work. Larger pieces of work, such as global policies, can be quoted as a fixed price before work starts. For ongoing support, you can add it to a monthly plan, such as HR Helpdesk Plus at £295 a month, or to Fractional HR from £1,250 a month.
Fees for local specialists and employer of record providers are separate and paid directly to them.

Frequently asked questions
Can you give legal advice on US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand employment law?
No. I provide HR guidance and I do not give legal advice on local law outside the UK. Where local advice is needed, I work alongside trusted local specialists.
What is an employer of record?
An employer of record (EOR) is a company that legally employs your overseas worker on your behalf and handles local payroll, tax and compliance, while you direct the day-to-day work. I can help you decide whether it suits you, compare providers and prepare the people processes around it.
Which countries do you support?
I support UK-based businesses with employees in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Can you run payroll for my overseas team?
No. Payroll and tax for overseas employees are handled by a local provider or an employer of record. I help with the people processes around them.
